Biography
Pierson Rickard is a dedicated High School Trombonist currently pursuing a High School Diploma with a specialization in Music at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, with an anticipated graduation date in May 2025.
His musical journey began at the age of 8 with piano lessons from his aunt, but it was in the 6th grade that he discovered his passion for the Trombone, an instrument that resonated with him deeply. Inspired by his older brother's band concerts, Pierson eagerly joined the Marching Band in 7th grade, where he was introduced to a new vision of instrumental excellence. It was during this time that he crossed paths with Dr. Ian McCollum, the Professor of Tuba/Euphonium at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. From August 2020 to June 2022, Pierson received private lessons from Dr. McCollum before successfully securing a place at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
His musical prowess has earned him accolades, starting with his audition for the All-District Honors Band in 8th grade, where he claimed 3rd chair and later advanced to the All-State Honors Band, securing the 7th chair. Upon entering High School, Pierson joined the prestigious Wind Ensemble. In January 2022, he auditioned for the 9-10th grade All-District Honors Band, achieving the 8th chair position on the trombone. Currently, Pierson receives private lessons from John Ilika at UNCSA and actively participates in various ensembles, including the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and more.
Beyond his trombone virtuosity, Pierson finds joy in Musical Theatre, having immersed himself in the world of stage performance since the age of 12. His debut in Musical Theatre occurred at a summer camp, and since then, he has consistently auditioned for community theaters in his local area. Pierson also dedicates time to private vocal lessons with local instructors, showcasing his commitment to a well-rounded musical education.
Looking ahead, Pierson envisions a future where he combines his passion for music with a commitment to music education and social work. He aspires to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education & Social Work, followed by Masters and Doctorate degrees in Instrumental Conducting. Simultaneously, he aims to achieve an Artist Certificate in Trombone Performance, ensuring a multifaceted and accomplished career in the world of music and beyond.
